Tumescent liposuction and tummy tuck surgery are two ways that Dr. David Kung can recontour areas of concentrated fat that fail to respond to diet and exercise. For stubborn fat deposits or a sagging midsection that has lost its elasticity, liposuction and tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, remain the most common and effective treatments.
Ask just about any personal trainer and he or she will tell you that there is no exercise that can burn off localized fatty deposits. Aerobic exercise helps burn fat, but it burns fat across your entire body and does not target the area being exercised. Liposuction is certainly no substitute for aerobic exercise and a healthy diet, but for those who are bothered by fat deposits that don't respond well to exercise and dietary changes, it is the only procedure that can actually remove fat cells from the affected areas. Aside from our non-invasive liposuction and body contouring procedures, Kung Plastic Surgery near Washington D.C. offers tumescent liposuction, super-wet liposuction, and ultrasonic liposuction.
At our Washington D.C. area practice, Dr. Kung begins tumescent liposuction surgery by injecting a saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine solution into the area of the body from which fat will be removed. This method of liposuction can allow Dr. Kung to more easily remove fat. In addition, the tumescent liposuction technique reduces bleeding and provides a local anesthetic.
The super-wet liposuction technique is similar to the tumescent technique. However, with super-wet liposuction, less fluid is injected into the area from which Dr. Kung will be removing fat. During this type of liposuction surgery, the patient will have to be under general anesthesia.
Ultrasonic liposuction surgery, also known as ultrasound-assisted liposuction or UAL, involves the use of a special cannula (the metal suction wand used in liposuction) that uses ultrasonic energy to break up fat. Ultrasonic energy causes fat cells to liquefy, which allows for easy removal upon suction. Many surgeons use this type of liposuction when more precision is required - as with a small volume liposuction procedure.
At our practice near Bethesda, we offer tummy tuck surgery to address the problems patients may have with sagging skin and/or fat in the abdomen. Many factors, including pregnancy and large amounts of weight loss, can lead to a bulging or loose abdomen. At our practice in the Washington D.C. area, tummy tuck will be performed only after we have carefully identified the source of the problem, which can be the result of weakened muscles in the abdominal wall, excess fat, excess skin, or a combination of the three. Abdominoplasty needs to address each of these problems.
During tummy tuck surgery at our office near Bethesda, laxity in the abdominal wall can be corrected by tightening the muscles of the stomach region with a procedure called facial plication. Excess skin and fat can be directly removed from an incision in the low abdominal or bikini line area. At our Washington D.C. area practice, Dr. Kung can work with you before a tummy tuck to place the incisions discreetly to create the most inconspicuous scars possible. Additional fat can be removed using liposuction, which can allow for more detailed recontouring of the abdomen and flank regions when performed in conjunction with abdominoplasty.
